About Me…
Hello and welcome to my weblog! My name is Rhonda M. Cartwright and I am an aspiring writer with a special love for African and African-American history, literature and culture. I am also a wife and mother that enjoys reading, traveling, meeting interesting people and learning new things! I am a graduate of Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio and Indiana University. I am also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the American Democracy Project (though I have not submitted a piece in some time ;0))
My weblog initially started as a a part of my thesis project in graduate school, but it has become a way that I can write about my thoughts, explore my feelings and experiences in hopes that others who have shared similar experiences, or maybe not, can let me know what they think and feel about varying subject matter. ;0)
This endeavor is truly an avenue to broaden my scope of understanding, but also to enlighten readers about an ordinary person with extraordinary dreams!
I welcome guest writers to consider submitting an article or two, or more, to the site. It is my hope to eventually gather a group of writers who may be interested in bringing their talents together to start an on-line magazine that focuses on African-American issues but also addresses the lives of all people, and how we are bringing our communities together in love, peace, humility and understanding. If you’re interested, please email me at Cjrc92@aol.com. Again, thank you for visiting! Peace and blessings to you and yours…

Hello Rhonda, I was happy to learn of the Wilberforce University Dawn Dance 2008 Reunion at the university which means so much to you. I was particularly pleased to learn of your pride in the accomplishments of William Grant Still (1895-1978). He is profiled in detail and his compositions are listed as well on his page at http://www.AfriClassical.com An excerpt from your post appears on AfriClassical Blog today. I hope you will subscribe to the blog and explore the website as well. It offers over 100 audio samples. Sincerely, William J. Zick, Ann Arbor, MI

Hello Rhonda, how are you, Oh how I remember the Dawn dances. although I was never a student at Wilberforce University, one of my closest and dearest friends was. We were both from Dayton, so making our annual appearance was always a wonderful experience. I myself took classes at Central State University, when I wasn’t studying I was dressing all of the Delta’s at The Wilberforce Delta House for other events in unique and one of a kind paraphanelia. Now I am 16 years older and I dont dress Delta’s anymore, however I am a Free lance interior designer/artist and I do design beautiful pieces of art, design beautiful rooms (specializing in childrens themed rooms) and I also enjoy creating unique and one of a kind sorority and fraternity pieces, mostly as gifts for friends. I left Ohio over 12 years ago, and have grown my small specialty business in Charlotte, NC where I lived for 8 years, West Palm Beach, Fl the past 4 years and I have clients in Atlanta and Savannah, Ga. I most recently have come home (temporarily) to try to jump start my business here at home, because it was at Wilberforce, University that my Tee-shirt, sweat suite making made me discover my other artistic talents. I saw your blog while searching for AKA upcoming events comemorating the sororities 100 years of service. And when I read about the Dawn dance it brough back a memory or two. Presently, I’m in the business of designing and making unique furniture pieces, including foot stools, tables, headboards, ect and would love the opportunity to showcase my work to any of your sorors, or even design and make something (headbords for the beds at AKA house) a table a foot stool, wall mural or just something as simple as a canvas painting or a wooden paddle or anyone of your sisters. I am writing you in hopes that you may be interested as well in seeing my work, and that possibly you could place me in contact with someone at Wilberforce. I promise that you would not regret it. My work is good, unique and one of a kind. Should you choose, I can be reached at 561.460. 5917. Thanking you in advance for your time, and In hopes of look forward to a reply. Respectfully, Angela
